Trust & accreditation

Independent by design.

The party that issues the verified mark is not the party selling the product. That separation — backed by SANAS accreditation — is what makes the mark worth trusting.

Four pillars behind the mark

Independence, privacy, future-readiness and open standards — concrete, not slogans.

  • SANAS-accredited

Independent verification by Defcon Protec, a SANAS-accredited authority. When you see the verified mark, an accredited third party stands behind it.

    INSP0039 · independent BCR · quarterly re-verification

  • POPIA, privacy-first

Built for South Africa’s POPIA. Consumers verify without an account; personal data is access-controlled, encrypted in transit and retention-bound.

    Encrypted in transit · role-based access · privacy-friendly analytics

  • EU DPP ready

The EU Digital Product Passport reaches textiles around 2028–2029. VeriCon is DPP-ready today — unique identity, certificates, traceability and lifecycle data.

GS1 Digital Link · EPCIS 2.0 event export

  • Standards-aligned

Aligned with GS1 Digital Link and EPCIS 2.0, so your product data travels to retailers, regulators and the DPP without rework.

Anti-counterfeit

Un-fakeable, without a blockchain

You don’t need a distributed ledger to make a code impossible to fake.

Every VeriCon identity is a cryptographically random UUID — there’s no sequence to guess, no pattern to enumerate, and the record behind it can’t be silently altered. You get tamper-evidence and anti-counterfeit protection without the cost, latency and energy of a chain.

Defcon Protec

An accredited authority behind every mark

VeriCon is built and operated by Defcon Protec (Pty) Ltd, a South African verification company accredited by SANAS — the South African National Accreditation System, the single national body government recognises to accredit conformity-assessment bodies.

Independent verification means Defcon Protec audits the manufacturer with a Business Capability Report, tests the product against the relevant standards, and verifies performance before the green “Driven by Defcon Protec” mark goes live. Verification is monitored with quarterly re-checks, and a mark can be placed on hold if standards slip.

Privacy

POPIA-first, by default

VeriCon is built for South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Consumers can scan and verify a product without creating an account or surrendering personal data.

Where personal data is collected — product registration, complaints — it is access-controlled, encrypted in transit, role-restricted and subject to defined retention policies. Geolocation on scans is consent-based and stored coarsely. Analytics are privacy-friendly by design.
